A drawer of orphaned sorts
While clearing the back room we found a drawer of mixed 10pt italic, half of it missing the lowercase g. A short story about how we filled the gaps.
We are a two-person print shop working out of a former bakery. Every card, invitation and broadside is composed in lead and wood type, inked by hand and run through a 1953 platen press, one sheet at a time.
Two-colour on 600gsm cotton, hand-deckled edges.
Thick, quiet and deeply impressed. Runs from 100.
Wood type, big sheets, numbered editions.
Tell us the words, the paper and the mood. We reply within two working days.
We compose the text in metal and wood, then pull a proof for you to approve.
Ink is mixed by hand to match. Each colour is a separate pass through the press.
Trimmed, edge-painted if asked, and packed flat in acid-free tissue.
Proofs are always free. Extra colours add one pass each; we will tell you the number before we start.

Sixty-one visitors, one jammed platen and a surprisingly good cake. Photographs are pinned up in the shop.
